After 5 years of planning, Barb and I are finally going to get tattoos this weekend. She already has one, a beautiful moon on her shoulder.
Part of the delay is that I can’t decide on a design. Originally, I wanted a gryphon (my maiden name is Griffin), but I’ve since come to understand how very little I have in common with the other people who share that name (except for my mother and sister). Still, I like the symbolism. The other option is something suitably pagan – a pentacle or moon or world tree. The bad news is there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good pagan flash on the web.
The main problem, however, is where to put the damn thing. I want to be able to see it, but I don’t necessarilly want it to be obvious at, say, a job interview. Also, being a fat person, I don’t want to put it anywhere that will change shape as I change weight. Here are my options:
- Back of the neck — I can’t see it here.
- Small of the back — again, can’t see it. Plus there’s that whole cliche’ about such tattoos. (I’d have to get an image Crash liked.)
- Boob — first, I’m not whipping that out for the artist. Second.. cliche’.
- Upper Arm — I’d be tempted to get MOM inside a big red heart.
- Upper Thigh – maybe. Kinda weird, tho
- Shoulder — hard to see, but not impossible. Maybe.
