Give me .30ml of Penicillin stat

So if you read in Mushi’s blog you know Ripper(our gray bunny) is sick.  She’s developed a bit of an abscess just behind her right eye.  Today she got her second shot, the first one by us. and True to her promise Melissa made me do it.  The Ripper was pretty good about, a little squirming at first but we got her calmed abit and in it went.  She is also getting much better about getting her eye medication.  My hope is that after all this is done she will tolerate us petting her more.

Work.

Well three HR reps, one pee pee test, and several weeks later I have an actual start date.  As of 10/23 I will be off the couch and a working stiff.  Kinda exciting…  and this is one of the rare times I got a job, without knowing anyone else at the office. So it should be interesting.

Hey honey, I think Halloween just threw up on the house.

Well with written offer in hand, accounting went out and bought the last bit of Halloween decorations available in the stores.  Christmas is here in force people, which was handy when I was looking for light clips and a remote control box.  I just put the finishing touches on it today, so gonna need to see what it looks like when it gets dark.  Actually it looked pretty good last night, but gonna need to see what it looks with the black light installed as well as the lights I strung in our smaller tree.

Anyone looking for work?

Even though at this point in time I have stopped actively looking for a job, I’m still getting calls from recruiters and such for various computer administrator jobs.  So if anyone out there want a change in a pace, and his handy with “the linux”, let me know I will gladly point them in your direction.

Please note that almost all of these are Local to the RTP area jobs.

Geek-a-Thon

Last Saturday night I volunteered my services at Geek-A-Thon.  Its a non-profit group that refurbishes old computers and donates them to worthy causes like students who can’t afford them.  My scheduled shift was from 8pm-11pm..  Un/Fortunately by the time I got there they had finished most of the work.  I helped conduct final test on a few machines, then stuck around to help troubleshoot some new machine for Sunday’s crew.  It was a pretty good experience, and I got to help to teach a few kids about the inner workings of computers. They are having another event in Nov, but the details are not finalized yet.  I would encourage those who know their way around a computer, or those confident to follow instructions to lend a hand.

Please ignore the giant gas cloud

Nothing like getting a phone call at 6am asking if you are ok from the chemical explosion.

yes there was a good size chemical storage/oil fire just a few miles from our house. We are south of it, and the rain has mostly like saved us from being evacuated.

And the air samples are good as of now.

A nice problem to have.

So had an interview Monday for a job that they are still considering me for. Had an interview Tuesday where they made me an offer. Now I get a phone call for a face to face interview today, for another firm. Plus still have resume out on a odd dark horse candidate. The places I’ve interviewed are all well established firms. Yesterday I spent the day getting all the paper work in order for the firm that made me the offer. I’ve been very fair with the other firms, telling all non-offer tendering places that I have one on the table right now. So at the rate things are going I might still have other offers on the table. They will just need to beat the one I have in hand.

So for all of those who said don’t worry about finding work, I will now say ok you were right. i’ve only been really in the job search for less than 2 months and I’m getting all kinds of feed back. Thanks also needs to go out my resume helper(thanks sam!!) I don’t think I would have been as successful with out her.

It will be really good to escape daytime television, as I type this three different C-list performers are telling me where to vacation(2 think TN is a good idea)

WOO WHOOO!!!! I have a Job Offer

I know you are not supposed to jump on the first offer you get.  But I like the company (hmm guess I should keep the name of it out of this, but if you ask me privately I’ll will tell ya) really like the team members I met(no nonsense, hard chargers)the money is great, and its a full time with bennies job.  So I think I’m gonna take it.  The only possible downside is its with a government contract that is set to expire next August, but the company has held this contract for 5+ years.  Either way it means I have work for a year.
There is another firm that was considering things but they have not gotten back to me on taking a skills test.  And they seemed a little stuffier(and had a stricker dress code)
So you snooze you loose

What the Hell is wrong with people

Today a third school in less week is dealing with a deadly shooting. This one a small one room Amish school. From the early reports this one, like the one in CO, targeted the girls. The second shooting involved a principal. The latest gun man picked the Amish cause it was “close and did not have strong security.
