Terry and the Pirates is an old Columbia serial from 1940. Its based on the old newspaper comic from the same period. The entire plot involved a young boy and his older male companion(OMC) as they travel to exotic locations and get into adventures. Later when WWII broke out Terry joined the Army Corps and continued to fight evil in exotic locations. It is said that the Indiana Jones movies draw some inspiration from them.
The plot of this serial is Terry and his OMC travel to some jungle to catch up with Terry’s dad an archaeologist. where they run a foul of a long simmering feud between the Dragon Lady(yes this is the origin of that phrase) and Fang. Most of the movie is spent traveling from set to set with our heroes getting into fights, lots of fights. So far they have survived: a giant hay(as in straw) storm, a volcano, burning buildings, eaten by crocodiles, blown up by a hand grenade and many fights with a large Monkey and his trainer.
The sets were kinda limited, we have seen Dragon Lady’s Throne room, Fang’s headwaters, with the optional torture chamber, His hideout(yea when you are really evil you 2 locations), Rubber plantation owner Drake’s House and a trading outpost with radio room. The rest is film outside what looks to be LA(I think i even saw Gorn rock). We are not sure what jungle they are supposed to be in, my current theory is somewhere like Burma, that once had a zoo which burned down and all the African animals escaped. Some of the characters are dressed like Mongols, other in silly pajamas and another seem to be dressed like a druid priest.
We might look for either the Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers one next.
