boy am I tired

So friend of ours finally closed on her house last week, and became one of our new neighbours.  So I’ve been helping her out moving stuff in the jeep, showing her how to replace door locks, working on air filter, replacing batteries in smoke detectors, and all around tall handy guy stuff.  Thursday I picked up and then assembled our new patio set.  Did it in like 100 degree temps so that kinda wore me out, and then did more moving stuff on Friday.  Over the weekend, we picked up a new powerwasher, after discovering it would pay for it self in like 2-3 cleanings.

Finally broke down and got a kitchen scale and used it to make some yummy cinnamon rolls.(even got up early to bake them so melissa could take them to work this morning)  They are a kinda a pain to bake, as you need to make them the night before, but on the plus side that means less work in the morning when you want to eat them.  I think they got the prefect level of sweetness(not like those mall ones that make your teeth hurt) and there are no funky chemicals in them like the exploding can kind.  I will defintely be making them again and sharing them with my friends.

The Road To Hockey

Turns out the road near our house is not the worse of the street problems as a result of the flooding from last week.  According to the news at least one street is completely cut off forcing the residences to part their cars down the road and walk over the washed out road to get to homes.  Reports say it will take weeks to get everything fixed up.

and the Carolina Hurricanes finnally, as they say out here, “got’er done” and won the Stanely Cup Championship.  I was too scared to watch the whole game, but I did catch the last couple of minutes to see the Canes score a goal, making it 3-1. and then do a great job of keeping the puck away from the net.  I have never seen that much emotion on Canes Captain Rod Brind’Amour, as when he held the Stanely Cup over his head.

The goalie Cam Ward won the MVP award.  Which poses this question, your 22 years old and just won the stanely cup and named MVP, where do you go from there?

Rain

Rain is often used in a literary themes as a sign of change.  Well yesterday we got over 5″ of change at our house thanks to Alberto.  Much flooding occured and even closed down one of the mega malls.(I still don’t understand why they put the mall next to a creek that has flooded several times since I been here)

I had recieved another phone call from a different recuiter the other day and I braved the rising waters to meet with him and his partners.  Apparently I impressed them with all my skills and experience.  Heck I even scored pretty well on their Linux Admin test. But they thought I would be better suited for more of a Technical Manager type roll.  Which is good cause I think I would be better suited for a Tech Manager roll.  They even liked the fact that I seem to have a broad range of skills, and thought they could help me find work soon, infact they even had a couple things in mind for me.  I guess the rain did infact bring change.

Oh and the Hurricanes lost game 5.  It was a better game play wise, Both teams played pretty well and it was decided in sudden death overtime.  So game 6 is back in Canada.

Recap

Job?  well I think I might be turning the corner in the job search.  Heck a recuiter even called me out of the blue for what sounds like a pretty cool job, So between me and my friends helping to beat the bushes, I hope to join the employed soon.

Hockey: well after a close victory game 1, blow out game 2, the Canes kinda phoned in game 3 , and as a result loss.  Neither team seemed that charged for the game.  The Canes still lead the series 2-1(best of 7 for those not in the know)  But it is definately a case of 2 tiny markets(If not for Wayne Gretzsky I dont anyone would have even heard of it) playing what seems to be a championship that no one is watching are talking about.

Weather: WOW had some pretty good cells develop over the past couple days. at one point in time last night the rain gage reported rain fall rate of over 4″ an hour.  And we got our first named Tropical Storm of the Seaon Alberto.  His current path with have him cut over Florida and skirt up the East Coast, so we should see some leftovers Thursday or so.

Lets go Canes!

So we did not go to any games this season, but that did not keep me from watching them on our big TV.  We just sat through game 7 of the playoffs and a much stronger looking Hurricane club is once again heading to the Stanely Cup.  Wonder how many Redneck/Andy and Opie cracks we will have to endure this time.  Its amazing how tense I get watching a hockey game, my heart is just finally slowing down.
