Yep computers are evil, but worth it

Sigh… well that only took a pretty major reformat of my XP install but the box seems to be doing ok. I still have another night of throwing updates and software on(Anti-virus, Spy-blocker, etc…

But the test of sight of Player vs Player combat on the test server of City of Heroes made it worth it. No lagging, max resolution, and max detail. It was a pretty thing to see.

Update.. Grrr snarl.. grrrl. So I made a rookie mistake and did not use the native nvidia drivers, and was rewarded with about 18k of player debt in CoH. That has been corrected and All the other software bits have been installed. Now to decide if I want to put Linux back on this beast…

BOO YEA!!!

Thanks to the rockn’ peoples at New Egg My new computer parts have arrived. Not bad considering I ordered them friday afternoon and used the cheap shipping option.

Now I just have to wait till end of day and after dinner before I can start the process of putting it all together. I wonder how many of these things I have put together over years. I think its like 7 or 8 for personal use. The number of ones I have built for work is countless.

I cracked the case on my first machine, to install a modem, when I was still in high school, so thats like 18 years ago. That was Franklin 8000(IBM clone, 8088 8bit processor that ran at a blazing 4.77 Mhz)) And now I am about to bring a 64bit machine to life that runs at about 3.2GHz) so just shy of 20 years my computing power has increased over 1000x and cost has dropped to about 1/4

wow

Movie Season

So this weekend we went and saw Saraha. Its your typical modern day adventure yarn. Its based on the book by the same name written by a guy named Clive Cussler. Acutally good ol’ Clive wrote a whole series of books going back to 1973.(I looked it up) As a teen we had a whole bunch of them around the house and I read them all. They are some of the early examples of Techno-thriller brain candy that Tom Clancy has made famous. All the plots are rediculous. He rose the Titanic(long before it was ever found), used lost WWII atomic weapons, old battleships shelled DC, with nerve gas, and I think I even remember a secret moonbase and treaty that sold Quebec to the US just before WWI.

The movie itself was pretty good for the genre, I would definately classify it as rentable if you are a fan of the genre. Fans of the book, will need to squint to find the plot, but wil recongize many elements.(but sorry kids no Abe in this one)

Well that was painfull

So some of you may have noticed some lagging with our site. Well after looking at the server and not seeing any issues, I turned my eye to the networking. And sure enough it wanted some attention. So after reseting it twice, loading new firmware, loading the old configs, reseting it again, and then manually reconfiguring the router, all seems well now. Infact I noticed an order of magnitude increase indown loads.

Which is good cause now you can go to our photo section and download some short videos from Hawaii.

South Park(new version)

All new South Park Generator

Sin city

Dang that was one heck of a movie. While not familar with the original works this movie did take you for quiet a ride. I was tired after watching it. Lots of flinching and as my Mushi said making lots of “eeewww” noises. Definately go see it.

And for those who say movies are not faithfull to the original source material I present this link *Warning not work safe*

Possible Outage

Warning jiggles and others that read/post to this site. Our router is being really cranky and I think its time for some rebooting and some updating. This will likely cause it to be down for a bit tonight. I am hoping the total time down should only be 30 minutes or so. The Sys-admin in me felt the need to post a warning.
