So for a couple years now I’ve been running around in my X-wing costume, supporting museums, brightening other peoples day, raising money for charities, getting a bajillion pictures taken, and all around having lots of fun. But it looks like I might get a chance at the big screen.
If everything stays on track I will be able to add movie extra to my resume. Simon Pegg(you know that Shawn of the Dead Guy, and the new Scotty) is filming a movie in Abq this summer, called Paul, and they needed a bunch of extras to film a Science Fiction Convention scene. So the word went out and I submitted some photos and next thing you know a casting director is telling how awesome my costume is and telling me filming dates.

I’ll promise to keep everyone updated as things progress.
Oh and the reason for the title of this post? Greg Mottola is the director of movie.

Starfest 09

Recap

11″ inches of snow fell while I was there, making travel a little difficult. Weather did in fact clear up by the time I left. I had a pretty good time. listened to a couple panels, saw some really impressive costume/prop work(including a Deloran Time machine), enjoyed Dragon’s awesome home theater setup. Ate some kick ass hot dogs at my cousins place. And caught up with some other 501ers/Rebels.
And some one even recogized and took a picture of my Tales of the Gold Monkey costume. It was good to get out of town for a while.

Costume Work

So I’ve started work on my next 2 costumes. Neither is one is a SW so this will be a switch. The first is a pretty simple/esoteric one that I’m working on for StarFest. The only 2 parts I needed were pretty easily obtained and should be hear by end of next week.

The second one is my Halloween costume. Yes everyone who is planning on attending my Halloween party has already started working on costume. I just ordered some sample material to see if I like it and if I do I place the big order. Maybe just maybe if I work really hard on it it might be ready for D*C so it might go with me then.

Fanboys this weekend

So for those in Abq check out Century Theater 14 Downtown this weekend. Fanboys is a movie about some Star Wars fans on an epic road trip. Several scenes were infact filmed here in abq with some of the gang.

So needless to say we will be trooping the theater Friday night and Saturday afternoon. So come on down and show some support for film making in NM, or if nothing else get your picture taken with a bunch of Star Wars characters.

Well just wanted to say thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday. It was a very very low key event. I got a card from my dad, the next 2 Sharpe books from wife and then she made me a lasagna. Topped off with some chocolate Cold Stone ice cream cake.

Playing at the Cap???

It was never on my life list to play in a bar band.. But yesterday We officially got paid(one round of free drinks) for playing Rock Band at the Cap. George, Mike, Heidi, Melissa and I swapped in an out, for a couple of sets.
We were the filler act in between real bands who were performing all day during the canned food drive they were having. It was fun and we even got some applause from the audience.

Trooping, trooping and more trooping

So first there was Bubonicon(xwing) then was DragonCon(xwing) then it was the first annual Socorro Scifi Con(TK) and tonight its another event, The midnight release of Force Unleashed.(which is gonna be xwing)

and I already have the Abq balloon fiesta on the horizon.
What does all this mean? well the X-wing suit has undergone some major repairs(complete zipper repair, chest box fixing)The TK blaster got some touch up paint, and some re-gluing of parts. The armor also needs some Velcro upgrades and replacements. It just goes to show that a costume like this is not a one time build in and your done. Parts wear out, get dropped, lost, etc.. and its takes constant upkeep.
There were some good pits from all of this.. including some pictures of us trooping at the VLA. (which I’m told was a first) give me some time to gather them up from the various sources and get them posted in the gallery.

Dragon*Con the Revenge

So we survived another D*C. and before you ask, no I didn’t bring my trooper armor. I’m really going to need to look at shipping stuff for future events due to the severe limits on luggage.

I did bring the flight suit and got to particpate in a couple high profile Rebel Legion event. I also got to hang out with alot of peoples I only chat with via email. and by the end i got a small dose of the cron crud.

I didn’t take much pictures so if you want to see what I saw just do a basic search on flikr.(you will most likely see more than I did)

for the list of things I learned this year check after the break

1. Nathon Fillion is way funny.

2. If you get into a pushing contest with Ray Park(stunt man turned actor Darth Mal from the phantom menace, Toad from Xmen) he will kick you in the nose.

3. Erin Grey is also pretty funny and way smart, she runs a management agency for stars who go to Sci-Fi cons.

4. If you are going to win a cool set of 501st trading cards, take off your Rebel Legion hat first.
5. Be wary of any party whose theme is lets drink all this booze so we don’t have to bring it home.

All in all I had a good time. Not sure if I will go back next year, I think it might be more of a matter on who else I know goes.
